House Rules
Everything you need to know for a comfortable, safe, and enjoyable stay.
Storm King Lodge is a historic property designed for a peaceful and comfortable Hudson Valley stay. These House Rules help protect the Lodge, our guests, our neighbors, and the private residences located on the property.
Please review the rules that apply to your reservation before your stay. Some rules differ between Entire Lodge Rentals and Room Rentals, as noted below.

Guests & Visitors
Registered Guests
Only guests included in the reservation may stay overnight at Storm King Lodge.
Entire Lodge Rentals accommodate a maximum of 8 overnight guests.
Room Rentals accommodate a maximum of 2 registered guests per room.
Access codes are provided for registered guests and should not be shared with anyone who is not authorized to enter the property.
Day Visitors
For Entire Lodge Rentals, up to 4 day visitors are permitted for normal social visits. Additional visitors, gatherings, or events require advance written approval from Storm King Lodge.
For Room Rentals, visitors are not permitted without prior written approval. The Lodge’s common areas are shared with other registered guests during Room Rentals, so only registered guests should normally be inside the Lodge or on the property.
Only registered overnight guests may remain overnight. Unauthorized overnight guests may result in a $150 per-person charge and other remedies provided by the Rental Agreement.
Children
Storm King Lodge is an adult-oriented historic property.
For Entire Lodge Rentals, children may stay when they are disclosed as part of the reservation and permitted by Storm King Lodge. Children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times.
Room Rentals are adults-only unless children or infants have been expressly approved in writing in advance.
The property includes stairs, fireplaces, stone walls and steps, uneven historic surfaces, a covered historic well, road traffic, and other conditions requiring particularly close supervision of children.
Quiet Hours
Entire Lodge Rentals
Quiet hours are 10:00 PM–8:00 AM.
During these hours, please keep music, television, conversations, and outdoor activity at a level that cannot reasonably disturb our neighbors or residents of the property’s private apartments.
Room Rentals
Quiet hours are 10:00 PM–9:00 AM.
Because other guests may be staying in adjacent rooms, please keep televisions, music, conversations, doors, and movement through shared areas quiet during these hours.
Guests returning to the Lodge after 10:00 PM should enter quietly.
Outdoor Areas
The veranda and other outdoor guest areas are also subject to quiet hours. Please be especially considerate outdoors, where voices and music can carry farther than expected.
Lodge & Common Areas
Entire Lodge Rentals
During an Entire Lodge Rental, the designated guest portions of the Lodge and its common areas are for the exclusive use of your registered group and permitted visitors.
Private apartments, staff areas, utility areas, locked spaces, the attic, basement, and other designated restricted areas are not included in the rental.
Room Rentals
During Room Rentals, the Great Room, dining area, kitchen, veranda, and other designated common areas are shared spaces.
Please be considerate of other registered guests, clean up after yourself, and do not leave personal belongings spread throughout shared areas.
Furniture & Furnishings
Please treat the Lodge’s furniture, antiques, artwork, books, piano, fixtures, and other furnishings carefully.
Furniture and other items should not be removed from the Lodge. If something is moved during your stay, please return it to its original location before check-out.
Guest Rooms
Guest rooms are private to the guests assigned to them. Do not enter another guest’s room during a Room Rental unless you are an authorized occupant of that room.
Kitchen
Entire Lodge Rentals
Entire Lodge guests may use the kitchen throughout their stay.
Please clean up after cooking, wipe down surfaces, return kitchen items to their proper locations, and place used dishes in the dishwasher.
Room Rentals
The kitchen is shared during Room Rentals.
Cooking and meal preparation should be completed by 9:00 PM. After 9:00 PM, please limit kitchen use to quiet, light activities that will not disturb other guests.
Clean dishes, cookware, counters, and other surfaces promptly after each use rather than leaving them for other guests.
Appliances & Supplies
Please use appliances only for their intended purpose and follow any instructions provided in the Guest Guide.
Do not leave cooking unattended. If you are unfamiliar with an appliance or encounter a problem, please contact Storm King Lodge rather than attempting repairs.
Fireplaces & Safety
Traditional Fireplaces
Traditional fireplaces are located in the Great Room, Pine Suite, and Loft Suite.
Fireplace use is a seasonal amenity and must be specifically authorized by Storm King Lodge. Guests may not start a fire unless fireplace use has been ordered or otherwise expressly approved.
Only Lodge-provided or approved firewood, materials, and instructions may be used.
Do not bring your own firewood, use accelerants, burn trash or other materials, alter fireplace equipment, or leave a fire unattended.
Pellet Stove
The Great Room pellet stove is part of the Lodge’s heating system and is not a guest-operated traditional fireplace.
Guests may adjust it only as described in the Guest Guide. Do not open, refill, service, dismantle, or attempt to repair the pellet stove. Contact Storm King Lodge if assistance is needed.
Candles & Open Flames
Candles and other open flames are prohibited unless specifically authorized by Storm King Lodge.
No unauthorized fires, fire pits, grills, cooking devices, or other open-flame equipment may be brought onto or used on the property.
Fire & Emergency Equipment
Do not tamper with smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers, emergency lights, alarm equipment, pull stations, window escape ladders, or other safety equipment.
Emergency window escape ladders are stored beneath the beds in each guest room.
In a fire, medical emergency, or immediate danger, call 911 first, then contact Storm King Lodge.
Outdoors
Veranda
The covered veranda is available for normal guest use, including seating and outdoor dining.
Please keep the veranda clean, secure the rear door when appropriate, and turn off decorative veranda lighting when you are finished using it.
Grill
The Lodge’s propane grill may be used responsibly by guests who are comfortable operating a gas grill.
Never leave the grill unattended while lit. Turn off the burners and propane supply after use and clean up after grilling.
Please contact Storm King Lodge if you encounter a problem rather than attempting to repair or modify the grill.
Grounds
Guests may enjoy designated lawns, gardens, seating areas, and other guest portions of the property.
Storm King Lodge is a historic property with stonework, steps, tree roots, changes in grade, and naturally uneven outdoor surfaces. Please use appropriate care, particularly after dark or during rain, snow, or icy conditions.
Parking & Private Areas
Parking
Guest parking is available in the Lodge parking area.
Please park responsibly, avoid blocking other vehicles, and keep all apartment entrances, driveways, access routes, and emergency access clear.
Private Apartments
Storm King Lodge includes two private apartments that are not part of guest accommodations.
Apartment entrances, patios, parking areas, and other designated residential spaces are private. Please respect all signs, chains, barriers, and areas marked No Guests Beyond This Point.
Restricted Areas
The attic, basement, utility areas, storage areas, locked rooms, staff-only spaces, and other areas identified as private or restricted are not included in any guest rental.
Please do not enter or attempt to access these areas.
Security Cameras
Exterior security cameras may monitor entrances, parking areas, and other exterior portions of the property for safety and security.
There are no security cameras inside the Lodge, veranda, guest bedrooms, or bathrooms.
Smoking, Pets & Conduct
Smoking & Vaping
Smoking and vaping are prohibited anywhere on the Storm King Lodge property.
This includes the Lodge, guest rooms, common areas, veranda, grounds, gardens, parking areas, and other outdoor portions of the property.
Pets
Pets are not permitted unless specifically approved in writing by Storm King Lodge in advance.
Guests should not bring an animal onto the property without prior authorization.
Illegal Activity & Weapons
Illegal activity is prohibited anywhere on the property.
Weapons may not be used, discharged, displayed in a threatening manner, or handled in a way that creates a danger to guests, residents, neighbors, staff, or property.
Damage & Excessive Cleaning
Please report spills, breakage, leaks, damage, or anything that is not working properly as soon as possible.
Guests may be responsible for damage, missing items, excessive cleaning, smoke or odor remediation, unauthorized amenity use, or other costs resulting from a violation of the Rental Agreement or House Rules.
Events & Commercial Use
Parties & Events
Standard lodging reservations do not include permission to hold parties, receptions, weddings, meetings, or other organized events.
Events or gatherings beyond normal lodging use require advance written approval and may require a separate event agreement and additional fee.
Photography & Commercial Activity
Professional photography, filming, commercial productions, classes, workshops, product shoots, business events, or other commercial uses require advance written approval.
