Lodge

The Great Room

The Great Room is the heart of Storm King Lodge, with comfortable seating, a dining table for eight, television, library, piano, pellet stove, and the Lodge’s grand fireplace.

Entire Lodge Rentals: The Great Room and designated Lodge common areas are for the exclusive use of your registered group.

Room Rentals: The Great Room, dining area, library, kitchen, veranda, and other designated common areas are shared with other registered guests. Please leave shared spaces clean and comfortable for everyone.

Great Room Lighting

The main chandelier lights are controlled by the white switch with a black backdrop near the front entrance. A dimmer is located beside the switch; make sure the dimmer is turned up if you would like maximum light.

Additional lamps are located throughout the Great Room.

On the upstairs balcony/loft, the staircase light and dresser light are programmed to come on automatically in the evening and remain on overnight. These provide low-level illumination for guest safety. Please do not unplug or disable these lights.

For additional ambiance, the Lodge’s mural lighting can be switched on using the low-mounted switches at the bottom-left and bottom-right sides of the tall window wall.

Cooling & Airflow

The Great Room does not have dedicated air conditioning. During warmer weather, the Lodge is designed to take advantage of natural airflow from the veranda and surrounding property.

Two ceiling fans provide additional circulation. When weather permits, you’re welcome to open the doors for fresh air, but please keep the screen doors closed to help keep insects outside.

Cooling from the guest rooms may also contribute to the comfort of the Great Room.

Heating & Pellet Stove

The Lodge’s central heating system maintains the Great Room at a general comfortable temperature during colder weather.

For additional warmth, the Great Room has a pellet stove available for normal guest use during the heating season. Use the thermostat on the remote to increase or decrease the desired temperature.

If the pellet stove does not start or appears to need pellets or other attention, please contact Storm King Lodge at 845-208-4560 rather than opening, refilling, or servicing the stove yourself.

The Great Room’s traditional fireplace is a separate seasonal amenity. See Fireplaces for details.

TV & Streaming

The Great Room television includes YouTube TV and NFL Sunday Ticket for guest use.

You’re also welcome to sign into your own streaming services. Please remember to sign out of your personal accounts before departure.

During Room Rentals, please keep television volume low enough that it does not disturb other guests, particularly during quiet hours.

Library & Piano

You’re welcome to enjoy the books in the Lodge library during your stay. Please return books to the library before departure.

The piano is also available for respectful guest use. During Room Rentals, please be considerate of other guests and observe quiet hours.

Shared Spaces & Quiet Hours

During Room Rentals, common areas are shared among registered guests. Quiet use of these spaces is welcome at any hour, but television, music, conversations, and other activity must not disturb guests in their rooms.

Room Rental quiet hours are 10:00 PM to 9:00 AM.

For Entire Lodge Rentals, quiet hours are 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM, with particular consideration requested for outdoor noise and neighboring properties.

Private & Restricted Areas

Doors marked Staff Only are not part of the guest accommodations and should not be entered. This includes the Staff Only doors leading to the attic and basement.

The private apartments, locked closets, utility/service areas, and any other areas marked private or restricted are also not available for guest use.

Guest Rooms

Each of Storm King Lodge’s four guest rooms includes a private bathroom and its own features and amenities.

If you’re staying with us on a Room Rental, simply refer to your reserved room below. Entire Lodge guests have access to all four guest rooms.

Heating & Cooling

Each guest room has its own mini-split unit for heating and cooling, controlled by the wall-mounted remote near the bedroom door.

While each room has its own temperature control, all four guest-room units share the same heating or cooling mode. To prevent conflicts between rooms, please follow these operating guidelines:

When the outdoor temperature is 70°F or above: The guest-room system may be used for cooling. If you prefer a warmer room, simply leave your room’s unit off.

When the outdoor temperature is below 70°F: The guest-room system may be used for heating. If you prefer a cooler room, simply leave your room’s unit off or open a window as appropriate.

Please do not operate your unit in Heat while other rooms are using Cool, or in Cool while other rooms are using Heat.

If you’re unsure which mode to use or your room isn’t reaching a comfortable temperature, please contact Storm King Lodge at 845-208-4560.

In-Room Amenities

Convenient standard electrical outlets and USB-A charging ports are provided at the bedside nightstands, so there should be no need to move furniture to find an outlet.

PLEASE NOTE: In Room 2 – Pine Suite with Private Bathroom, the light switch near the bedroom door also controls power to the room’s electrical outlets and USB charging ports. To ensure your devices continue charging overnight, we recommend leaving this switch on and using the room’s four lamps to control the lighting.

Extra blankets are stored in each room’s dresser. Queen-bed rooms include an additional queen-size blanket, while the Twin Bedroom includes two additional twin-size blankets.

Each guest room also includes a garment steamer and a vintage-style Bluetooth radio/speaker.

Bathroom Amenities

Every guest room has its own private bathroom.

Hand soap is provided at the sink, while the shower is stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. An extra roll of toilet paper is also provided.

Forgot something? Each bathroom includes a complimentary toothbrush and toothpaste kit and a disposable shaving kit for your convenience.

A hair dryer is located beneath the bathroom sink.

Historic Plumbing

Storm King Lodge is a historic property with older plumbing. Please flush toilet paper only.

Wipes, feminine products, paper towels, tissues, and even products labeled “flushable” should be placed in the trash rather than flushed.

Bedroom Safety

Please take a moment after arrival to familiarize yourself with the nearest exit and the emergency information provided at the Lodge.

Emergency window escape ladders are stored beneath the beds in each guest room for emergency egress through the windows.

Kitchen

Kitchen Use

The Lodge kitchen includes a large sink, dishwasher, microwave, four-burner electric efficiency-size stove and oven, compact refrigerator, and the cookware and basic utensils needed for everyday meal preparation.

Entire Lodge Rentals: The kitchen is available throughout your stay.

Room Rentals: The kitchen is a shared common area. Cooking and meal preparation should be completed by 9:00 PM. Between 9:00 PM and 7:00 AM, quiet, light kitchen use is welcome.

During Room Rentals, please clean up promptly after each use so the kitchen is ready for other guests.

Dishes & Dishwasher

Dishes, bowls, cups, glasses, and flatware are provided for up to eight guests.

Dishwasher pods are located beneath the sink. Dish soap and hand soap are also provided.

Entire Lodge guests: Before checkout, please place used dishes in the dishwasher and start it.

Room Rental guests: Because the kitchen is shared, please clean or load your dishes promptly after each use rather than leaving them for later.

Cooking Supplies

The kitchen is stocked with basic cookware and cooking tools, including pots and pans, glass bakeware, knives, a cutting board, utensils, measuring tools, scissors, a whisk, tongs, spatulas, oven mitts, a can opener, bottle/wine opener, toaster, blender, and trivets for protecting the table and counters from hot cookware.

Most cookware is located in the lower cabinets. Flatware and cooking utensils are located in the lower center cabinet near the refrigerator.

Please return kitchen items to their original locations after use.

Coffee & Hot Drinks

A Keurig coffee maker is available for everyday use. We provide K-Cups, a selection of sweeteners, and creamer.

When using the Lodge mugs, select the third cup-size setting or smaller to prevent overflowing. The larger settings are suitable for larger cups or travel mugs.

An electric kettle is also available.

If you prefer traditional brewed coffee, a drip coffee maker is stored in the upper cabinet. Coffee grounds and filters for the drip machine are not provided, so please bring your own supplies if you plan to use it.

Refrigerators & Ice

The kitchen includes a compact refrigerator with a small ice/freezer compartment and limited space for groceries.

A second compact refrigerator is located immediately outside the kitchen and is convenient for keeping beverages cold. It also includes a small ice compartment and ice trays.

If you’re planning extensive cooking during an Entire Lodge stay, please keep the compact refrigerator capacity in mind when purchasing groceries.

Glassware & Cocktails

Additional drinkware is located in the tall cabinet beside the beverage refrigerator, including wine glasses, champagne glasses, and smaller drinking glasses.

A cocktail mixing set is also provided for guest use.

Kitchen Supplies & Cleanup

Paper towels are provided, with additional rolls located beneath the kitchen sink.

Please clean spills promptly, use the provided trivets for hot cookware, and leave counters and shared surfaces clean after use.

We expect traditional fireplace service to be available for the season by November 1, 2026.

Fireplace Season

Traditional fireplace service is seasonal and is offered from October 1 through April 30, subject to availability, weather, maintenance, and safety conditions.

Ordering Fireplace Service

Traditional fireplace use is an optional add-on and must be ordered and confirmed before use.

After booking, you can order fireplace service through our Enhance Your Stay options.

Storm King Lodge provides the approved materials, safety checklist, and instructional information/video necessary for authorized fireplace use.

Only Lodge-provided or Lodge-approved materials may be used. Please do not bring your own firewood, improvise fuel, burn trash or other materials, or start a fire that has not been authorized.

Never leave a fire unattended.

Pellet Stove

The Great Room pellet stove is separate from the traditional fireplace service and does not require a fireplace add-on.

During the heating season, simply use the thermostat on the remote to adjust the desired temperature.

If the pellet stove does not start or appears to need pellets or attention, please contact Storm King Lodge at 845-208-4560. Please do not refill, open, or service the stove yourself.

Outdoors

The Veranda

The covered veranda is accessible through the rear door of the Great Room.

To open the door, unlock the deadbolt, lift the handle, and pull the door toward you. A screen door provides ventilation while helping keep insects outside.

The veranda offers plenty of seating and an outdoor dining table that comfortably seats six. Two additional chairs are available when accommodating a group of up to eight.

Sunrise on the Veranda

The mountains visible from the veranda face the sunrise, and mornings can be particularly beautiful.

Consider checking the sunrise time during your stay and, if you can, bring your morning coffee outside to enjoy it.

For sunsets, the front of the property often provides a beautiful view in the opposite direction.

Veranda Lighting

The decorative veranda lights are controlled by a switch near the stone staircase leading from the veranda.

You’re welcome to enjoy the lights in the evening. Please turn them off when you’re finished and do not leave the veranda lights on overnight, out of consideration for our neighbors.

Propane Grill

A propane grill is available on the veranda, and Storm King Lodge provides the propane.

Guests who are familiar and comfortable with the safe operation of a propane grill are welcome to use it. Please supervise the grill whenever it is operating and make sure it is completely turned off after use.

If you are unfamiliar with propane grills or encounter a problem, please contact us rather than attempting repairs or adjustments.

Grilling utensils are stored inside the Lodge in the long cabinet behind the Great Room sofa.

Candles & Open Flames

Candles and other open flames may only be used when specifically authorized by Storm King Lodge.

See Fireplaces for information regarding traditional fireplace use.

Gardens & Grounds

Guests are welcome to enjoy the designated outdoor areas of the property.

The front garden includes two chairs and a table and is a pleasant place to relax. The lawn and pasture areas also provide space to walk, sit, and enjoy the property’s mature trees and country setting.

Walking the Property

Storm King Lodge is a historic country property with mature trees, exposed tree roots, stonework, steps, changes in grade, and natural terrain.

Please watch your footing while exploring the property, particularly after dark and during rain, snow, or freezing conditions when outdoor surfaces may become slippery.

Children & Supervision

Storm King Lodge is primarily an adult-oriented historic property, and the grounds are not designed for unsupervised children.

The property includes a roadway, stone walls and steps, changes in elevation, mature tree roots, a historic well, and other features typical of an older country property.

Room Rentals: Children and infants are not permitted unless specifically approved in writing before arrival.

Entire Lodge Rentals: Children included in an approved reservation must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times, indoors and outdoors.

Private Outdoor Areas

The two apartments and their associated outdoor spaces are private residences.

Please do not proceed beyond areas marked “No Guests Beyond This Point.” This includes the private stone patio and other areas designated for apartment residents.

Parking

On-site parking is available in the Lodge parking area, with space for approximately 11 vehicles.

Please park only in designated areas and avoid blocking driveways, access routes, or access to the private apartments.

Exterior parking-area lighting operates automatically from dusk to dawn.

Exterior Security Cameras

For guest and property safety, disclosed exterior security cameras monitor designated outdoor areas, including the parking area. Additional exterior areas may be monitored as permitted by law and applicable booking-platform requirements.

There are no security cameras inside the Lodge, veranda, guest bedrooms, or bathrooms.

Leaving

Coming & Going During Your Stay

Entire Lodge Rentals: Whenever everyone leaves the property, please make sure both exterior doors are secured. Close and lock the veranda door using its deadbolt and make sure the front door is locked.

To lock the front door from outside, pull the door completely closed and press the lock icon on the keypad.

Room Rentals: Always secure your private guest room when leaving. You are also welcome to lock the Lodge’s front entrance when you leave, particularly if no other guests appear to be present. Each registered room guest has their own front-door access code, so locking the entrance will not prevent other guests from entering.
